Recovering Thumbnails & Attachments

Very recently (okay yesterday) I decided to move my personal blog over to another domain, which for the most part went relatively smoothly. I doubled checked to make sure everything transferred over and there were no broken links but ran into an issue with posts that contained attachments derived from the media I had uploaded to WordPress. Unfortunately it’s not as easy as just uploading the images as WordPress does some wonky things with the directory where your images are, which means changing the URL to the image just doesn’t cut it.

After several frustrating minutes of trying to figure out how to restore my attachments, I used my handy dandy and preferred search engine, Google to determine if anyone else had run into the same issue. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone in my adventure. I tried a total of two plugins before I could find the one that would do what I needed. It was simple to use and restored all my images and thumbnails with a simple click of a button. I loved it so much that I decided to share!

The plugin is called Regenerate Thumbnails and its description reads:

Allows you to regenerate your thumbnails after changing the thumbnail sizes.

However, it also works when transferring your content to another domain. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who runs into the same issue that I have. You can find the plugin on WordPress’s Plugin directory via search or by simply clicking here.

I’d love to hear what you think of the plugin and if you found it beneficial. Good luck and enjoy!
